2008 Season Newsletter & Calendar

Welcome to a new year @ the Gold Coast Bodyboard Club.

As promised in our last newsletter for year 2007 there are some exciting changes for 2008.

Committee

Firstly we would like to announce the election of our new committee for the coming season:

Sponsors

Secondly and more importantly is the announcement of our major sponsors for 2008. We are proud to welcome aboard BSC Coolangatta and also thank Unknown Bodyboards for their continued support in the coming year. BSC have put up some great prizes with the introduction of an “Open Division” and first prize being a return trip to Hawaii to the value of $1,000.00. They have also donated 2 x $20.00, BSC Gift Vouchers per comp for each of the other divisions (one of which will go to the winner of the division and the other as a surprise draw), 10% discount @ BSC stores to all club members along with a huge stash of prizes for end of year presentation. Unknown Bodyboards are getting behind us once again this year with custom made boards. There are plenty of prizes out there up for grabs.

Divisions

Gold Coast Bodyboard Club are falling into line with Sunny Coast, Headlanders and National Titles with the re-introduction of age divisions for 2008. These divisions are as follows:-

• Grommets 13 and under
  
• Cadets 14-15
  
• Juniors 16-17
  
• Men’s 18 +
  
• Open All ages
  
• DK All ages

These age groups are determined by your age as at 30th December 2008.

Sign-up Days

To ensure the smooth running of the club and hastle free comp days we have arranged four sign-up days prior to the beginning of the calendar. There will be no sign ups at comps on the day or one off comps. Proof of age (birth certificate/passport) must be supplied by all new members. Sign up days are as follows:-

• Sat 12th Jan 2008 9.00 - 12.00
• Sat 19th Jan 2008 9.00 - 12.00
• Sat 26th Jan 2008 9.00 - 12.00
• Sat 2nd Feb 2008 9.00 - 12.00

Locations for sign up are:-

• BSC Coolangatta - Shop 5, 152 Griffith Street Coolangatta

• GCBC Office - 164 Christine Ave Burleigh Waters

Fees

We have arranged the above sign up days to allow fees to be paid off over a one month period as no fees will be collected on comp days. All fees must be paid in full prior to first comp.

The total annual membership is $135.00 comprising of the following:

• QAB Membership (insurance) $50.00 (compulsory)
• GCBC Membership $40.00 (includes a club tshirt @ sign up)
• Comp Fees $45.00 (9 club comps in total)

• $135.00

We are also offering a discount on fees if they are paid in full on the day of sign up. Discounted fees will be $120.00.

Judging

Luke Dalla has offered his expertise in the judging field for 2008 and mentoring our junior competitors along with organising camps and certificate courses. We also have the commitment of some of our local pros to attend as guest judges and to talk to the competitors about technique, wave selection and any general questions.

BBQ

Our usual BBQ will be on again next year and we would ask any parent who would like to help out in any way (even if it is only one comp) to please contact us.
