Lackey in Cloud Nine…
With the anticipation leading into the release of his first feature film, BSC Team Rider Matt Lackey has certainly been living in Cloud Nine: and im not just talking about his daily job of keeping the tourists safe from any trouble in the water atop his Lifeguard Tower in Kirra(Matt has a very good set of eyes).
Instead he has recently found some old footage from a trip he did to the Philippines a few years back with the Nomad Team.
Few years ago I booked a ’round the world ticket with the Nomad team, with first stop being Cloud Nine in the Philippines.
For me it was a dream come true. I had a picture of Cloud Nine on my school book right back in primary school, and since then I’ve always wanted to surf the place. I needed to get it good. I couldn’t go there and not get waves, but on arrival hearing that there hadn’t been waves there in the past six weeks I was losing hope fast. The maps didn’t look promising either and after four days into the trip and not seeing a wave over 1-ft, I was starting to get worried.
It wasn’t until around the sixth day we woke up to the sound of waves, that sound didn’t stop for the next five days! It was a dream come true for sure; just barrels and ramps for five days straight.
I was cleaning out an old room when I came across a CD with “Philos-Matt” written on it. The thing was sitting in an old shoe box, and turns out it was bunch of footage a guy shot while on holidays there with his wife. I dumped it into Final Cut and threw a quick edit together for you. - Matt Lackey
