The first round for Gold Coast Bodyboard Club 2009 kicked at Duranbah Beach on Sunday 15th March. With waves and weather in our favour, there was a whole lot of ambience surrounding the days events.
The club itself has so much to celebrate this year including a long list of new members as well as new sponsors. Topping that list are the clubs two Major Sponsors: Escape Travel Tweed City & Bodyboarders Surf Co. followed up by the Minor Sponsors: Bakers Delight Coolangatta, Milt Cromptons Meats, Onelife Health & Fitness & Quick Colour Print.
The club is here to support its members as well as their families, so we strongly urge all parents, partners and friends to get involved throughout the year. There will always be plenty of food and drink to go around, as well as activities to keep you amused all day long such as ball sports, music and not to mention helping out with some of the clubs overall roles such tasks as judging or lending a hand on the BBQ.
This year the clubs aim is to start showing its true potential-and with a newly elected committee in place-this is sure to happen. Already the club has worked together to get hold of some much needed new equipment, such as tents, chairs as well a PA System. All of this combined created a really strong atmosphere which clearly marked bodyboardings goals for the future on the Gold Coast as well as Queensland.
The talent within the club this year already has proven to be above standard with a lot of new faces putting up quiet a fight against some of the well known locals looking whom are keen to add some more silverware to their already full shelves. The day itself dished out some fun 2-3ft waves, which the younger competitors took advantage of straight up. The judges were handing out some pretty high scores while the waves were still clean which made it pretty hard to make it through the initial heats. Leading into the afternoon, peaks became a little harder to come across-but those with the local knowledge made the most of what was available.
The conditions began to diminish leading into the finals but the level of surfing only grew with some pretty high combinations being put together in all divisions. Overall the day was a huge success and looks to get even better as the year goes on. A big shout out goes to all the clubs members for making it all possible
Dont forget that this weekend, Duranbah plays host to the first state round for QAB as well as the Rheopaipo Pro. All the action kicks off on Friday so make sure you get down there to show your support, as well as catching up with some of your favourite riders. Also good luck to all our club members competing
